Dental Pain

A Modern Approach to a Perfect Smile

Are You In Pain?

If you are reading this, you are probably experiencing some sort of pain or discomfort. Unfortunately, many patients that visit our office initially, come because of pain/discomfort. It is our priority to get you out of pain and then prevent it from recurring. Most dental pain has its origin in the mouth and jaw. It can be the result of a bad cavity that has invaded into the nerve, a periodontal (gum or pyorrhea) disease, or potentially joint issues. The pain can be inflammatory based or directly pain induced. Treatment of the condition that creates the discomfort is the ultimate answer, and we’d love to help you!

How We Can Help

When someone calls in pain, we have to decide what the source is. A clinical or emergency related examination is necessary. We will review your history and any medical related conditions you might have and current medications. A radiograph (x-ray) or series of radiographs and possibly a TMDJ scan are necessary to determine the nature of the pain or what we call a diagnosis. At this point, we will discuss your options and either proceed with a treatment course or refer you to a specialist for specific care.

How to Treat/Manage Pain

Oftentimes pain can be managed with anti inflammatory (NSAIDs) and antipyretic (temperature reducing –Tylenol) medications. In some cases, when there is an infection, we may recommend a temporary use of an antibiotic. Ultimately, diagnosis and treatment of the pain source is the cure.
Once you are out of pain, we will discuss preventive treatment to keep you pain free. We are in the business of creating a lifetime of healthy smiles, which also means pain free! As the saying goes “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
